My dad is a 57-year-old Army veteran who has always been strong, hardworking, and the kind of person who takes care of everyone else before himself. Recently, he received devastating news: his heart valve was failing, and without immediate surgery, his life was at risk.

On July 24th, he underwent open-heart surgery to repair the valve. Thankfully, the surgery was a success, but the road to recovery is long and difficult. He will be out of work for at least three months, and while he has medical insurance, the deductible is extremely high, and the cost of the many medications he now needs is overwhelming. We are also still waiting for his short-term disability to be processed, leaving us with a major gap in income.
