Veterinary Costs for Bright Eyes

Donation protected
On Saturday, June 22nd, my cousin found the tiny grey feral kitten we had been trying to catch grievously injured. He had been hanging around my yard for a week and we had hoped he was someone's cat and would go home to safety, but once we realized he wasn't we spent hours trying to capture him. We live on a farm, and the hay started to be mown on Saturday morning. I hadn't seen the kitten and I couldn't find him - all I could do was hope he found a safe place to hide.

Around 6 PM my cousin found him under a bush at her house. He had been hit by the mowing machine and his right back leg had been severely lacerated and broken and his front appeared to be broken as well. We called our vet and she said to bring him in. She performed X-rays on his leg and discovered that it was shattered. It had been broken at the ankle and at the knee, and the tibia and fibula had been shoved up into his femur. His front right leg also had a greenstick fracture and possible nerve damage. The laceration on the back leg had torn apart the muscle and there were burns as well.

Today, June 24th, Bright Eyes had surgery. His back leg had to be amputated because of the infection that had set up in his bone, and the front was put into a splint. He is up and eating already, not two hours after his surgery.

This kitten has a will to live - to get from the area he was most assuredly injured in to the area we found him is over a quarter of a mile - probably closer to a half mile - and he had to have dragged himself there because he heard my cousin's outdoor cat. Despite his injuries he was lively and alert, cleaning himself and playing with a bug. The cost of the procedures performed on Bright Eyes are sure to be expensive. My cousin and I are both college students and although we are working out a payment plan with our vet, any contributions are invaluable.

We understand that money is tight for everyone and we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for any and all donations.
