Vet expenses for Athena

Donation protected
Hi, I'm fundraising for my long time friend Mel, owner of Davis Family Dobermans. They have experienced huge unexpectd Vet bills with their sweet Doberman Athena. Here's their story:

On June 10th, my heart girl, Athena started giving birth. The first 5 puppies came normally, even though #5 had a malformed front leg, due to the cord being wrapped around it. The 6th puppy was very slow coming, and I had to assist Athena to get him out. He was born lifeless, I spent an hour using every method to try and resuscitate him. I couldn't get him back. That was our first loss. Athena's contractions stopped, we went to the vet for an x-ray and to see how many puppies were still there. She still had 3 to deliver. The vet gave her an injection of oxytocin to help contractions and sent us home with more. We gave her a second injection. She started contracting again, but no puppy was coming. We went back to the Vet, and Doc said she needed a C-section. She tried to pull the puppy, but it was stuck and blocking the other 2 puppies. At that time, I asked Doc to spay her after the C-section, as I didn't want to ever put her through anything like this again. She came through the C-section and spay fine. We brought her home a few hours later. She settled in to feed her puppies and clean them more. After a bit, she got up and started pouring blood from her incision. I frantically called our Vet, and headed that way. Doc determined she was bleeding internally. She had to have a second surgery to save her life. I begged God to save her and he did. I've never been more scared in my 60 years on this earth. She did well, but Doc wanted to keep her overnight, just to be safe. We picked her up the next day, and things went well for the next 6 days. In the meantime, the sweet baby boy that was born with the problem leg had become ill. We took him to the vet, he was septic, from his leg. Doc treated him, and we took him for intensive care. He passed away the next day. We had all become attached to him. It was very difficult for our 7 year old grandson, as Little Lieutenant Dan was going to be his boy. Fast forward to Saturday June 17, Athena vomited and her incision ruptured, spilling out her intestines. I thank God, our RN daughter instructed me to put warm, wet towels over her intestines before we headed to the vet and Athena had to endure a 3rd surgery in the last 7 days. My heart was breaking, but praise the Lord, she made it through. Yesterday, we lost one of her baby boys to pneumonia, he went to the vet, and received antibiotics, oxygen, fluids and went to intensive care, but we lost him too. We also lost 2 pups during the C-section. We've now lost half of this precious litter. Athena is recovering, and getting her strength back, thankfully. All of our savings have gone to saving Athena's life and trying to save her 2 baby boys. I'm sad to have to ask for help, we are hard working people. I thought we had enough saved to be prepared for whatever might happen. Sadly, that's not the case...Our Vet commented on how rare it is that Athena, being such a healthy, strong girl, would have all of these complications. We are extremely appreciative of any help we receive. We are devasted by the losses, and praying to never experience anything like this again. If you can't donate, please share our story, we really appreciate it.

God bless, Todd & Melanie Davis--
