Vet care for Lyra
Donation protected
Update 12/10
I have decided after some time from receiving my donations and paying off my bills, that I would change the goal amount.
I do not expect anything farther then the initial goal but am hoping for some holiday spirit in this time of grief and hardship.
Lyra has just gone through a heat cycle, and is back to her skittish ways... I cannot explain the heartbreak every time that I go to pet her and she is not accepting. My cat is not the sweet but standoffish girl she once was, she is broken now and untrusting of human love. I was her "human" the only 1 of a 3 house family that could get her to love on me fully, and now she doesn't even trust me...
Her eye has cleared fully but I am waiting to take her back until I get a paycheck or 2 as I have spent everything on her and had to pay bills
Her rib looks to be healing at a good pace, which I expected given due to her determinate demeanor. However she still walks with a limp and is very discoordinated.
Her whiskers are growing out, and she has new ones to accompany the originals.
Merry Christmas and thank you to anyone who donates more.
My name is corinne and this is my beautiful 2 yr old cat Lyra.
On 11/17 I rehomed Lyra to a younger man living alone in chico, he said he was the only one living there and that she would be safe and loved.
Around 1 pm on 11/20 I received a Facebook call from him stating that he had heard a loud bang and meow come from the bathroom, when Lyra emerged her eye was bleeding. He asked if I could help him get her vet care and I agreed. I asked for a photo, which he sent immediately showing Lyra in a sink, wet with a bloody eye and no whiskers.
When asked why she was in such bad shape and her whiskers were gone, he proceeded to inform me that his 13 year old brother (who lives with him even though he said he lived alone and no one was there but him when I dropped her off) had decided it would be fun to burn her whiskers off!
After seeing the photo I told him I would be there to pick her up and take her to the vet, and that I would be keeping her.
The first vet visit went as expected, eye damage from blunt force trauma. We took her home with us and discover while she tried to get to her water, that she could not walk or hold weight on her front paws. The next morning we took her back to the vet on 11/21 they xrayed and found 2 broken ribs as well as swollen tissue around her shoulder.
No one knows what really happened to her, the man I rehomed her to will not tell me anything other then the whiskers being burned.
I am filling a report and have the vet documenting everything.
Today we pick her up after staying the night with the vet, and have already spent 1200 on treatment and still have more to go.
Any help would be amazing, Lyra is such a good girl and doesn't deserve this.
Thank you to anyone who helps.
