Hello to everyone taking the time to read this message.
My beautiful and amazing emotional support dog, Peto, was struck by a car on Wednesday, 01/15/2026. My mother is visiting for the holidays and, unfortunately, due to her age, she doesn’t always have the best judgment regarding keeping my house secure or containing my dog on the property while I’m at work.
Peto managed to get out and wander into the street, where he was hit by a car. The person responsible didn’t even stop to render aid or call for help. When I got home late that night, I saw him limping with a swollen leg. After a closer look, I realized he was severely injured and rushed him to a 24-hour emergency veterinarian. They confirmed he has a fractured leg and will require surgery.
I only found out exactly what happened thanks to a neighbor. She saw me returning from the vet the next day and told me she witnessed him getting hit by a metallic brown Honda, but she wasn’t able to get the license plate in time. Luckily, Peto was not fatally injured; he managed to limp his way back to the house and get inside. Since my neighbor didn't see my car in the driveway at the time, she wasn't able to inform me until the next day.
To make matters worse, because it was so late at night, I had to take him to the same clinic where my other dog had to be put down unexpectedly just a few months ago due to a stomach tumor. Even though I am extremely lucky that Peto survived, it was a very traumatic experience to relive so soon after losing my other best friend.
To anyone who knows how it feels to lose a pet or see them in this kind of distress: I couldn’t be more grateful for any help covering these medical bills. However small your donation may be, your gesture will be forever appreciated.
Thank you immensely for reading
