Vet Bill Fund for Gus's Treatments

Hello, we are Allison and Andrew. Thank you for coming to our GoFundMe page for our sweet 7 year old boy, Gus. Gus is a happy little man who absolutely loves every person and creature he meets. Gus was found wandering the streets in the Carolinas as a stray and we fostered him from a local rescue group in Western New York. We are happy to report we quickly failed as fosters and officially adopted Gus in October 2018. There was simply no way to imagine our lives without him. He helped me get through the sudden loss of my brother in 2018 and has brought so much love and joy to our lives since that we cannot believe how lucky we are to have found him. He has moved without complaint to 2 other states since joining our family and gotten another sister in November of 2022 after our wedding.

In December 2022, Gus started having horrible coughing fits and was having difficulty catching his breath. Just after Christmas, he suddenly began panting and shaking uncontrollably and we rushed him to the ER immediately. During that first episode, he was placed in an oxygen cage and misdiagnosed with heart failure. We were completely devastated at the thought of losing our precious boy. We were referred to a cardiologist who thankfully ruled out heart failure after two appointments to confirm and then referred us to an internal medicine specialist. Gus was diagnosed with pneumonia caused by chronic bronchitis. The vet treated Gus and we thought he was finally out of the woods and starting to return to his normal, easy-going self.

Unfortunately, the treatment triggered a second round of pneumonia. Gus began shaking uncontrollably and panting again so we immediately returned to the ER. He was placed in an oxygen cage for the second time. This treatment really took a toll on our poor guy and he was wiped out for days after the treatment and returning home. It’s horrible to watch our baby suffer in any way especially since he has brought so much peace to our lives. We would do anything to help Gus return to the sweet, goofy boy he was before this all started. He is part of our family and we are asking for help with these life saving expenses.

To date, our veterinary bills total $12,490.13. Our vet has one more treatment scheduled for Gus and we are hopeful that we will be headed to the finish line and Gus will thrive and our family can return to normal. We have many more adventures planned with our four legged babies.

Despite our efforts toward savings before this, we are out of funding and asking for any help to pay off our credit cards that we used to save Gus’s life. Our fundraising goal is $10,000 and we are hoping to raise this by June 21st. We truly appreciate any support we receive and hope you know that any little bit we receive will help us get Mr. Gus healthy again.
