5/24/24: Veronica was in a serious car accident today while vacationing in Mexico. The driver of the other vehicle is at fault and was detained by police. Veronica suffered multiple broken bones, including her arm, collarbone, ribs and a punctured lung. She is currently in the hospital in Mexico, in need of surgery to stop the bleeding in her lung. Due to the lack of medical attention she is receiving in Mexico, we are trying to find a way to get her back to the United States, to get the medical attention she needs.
5/28/24 Update: Veronica is currently in the ICU at a hospital in Miami. Her initial planned surgery has been delayed, due to the discovery of a more potential life threatening injury, which is currently being evaluated.
6/2/24 Update: Veronica had her first surgery on 5/30/24. They ran into a complication during her surgery, and decided to keep her intubated and under sedation. Fortunately, about 22 hours later, she was able to be extubated and is currently breathing on her own. Her lung is coming along well. While she has a long road to recovery ahead of her, she remains in good spirits.
6/9/24 Update: After 2 tough weeks, Veronica is finally out of the ICU. The next step in her recovery is transferring her to a skilled nursing facility, for about 6 weeks of rehabilitation. We are working with the team at the hospital in Miami to get her cleared for travel back home and into a local skilled nursing facility.
6/20/24 Update: Veronica has finally been discharged and flown back home, via air ambulance, where she will be receiving skilled nursing care for the next 4-6 weeks, to get her prepared for physical therapy rehabilitation.
Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared Veronica's story!
