Verona's Surgery & Treatment of Lymphangitis
Donation protected
My beloved horse Verona has been diagnosed with severe lymphangitis on Aug 11th. So far she has had 9 lazer treatments, 3 magnawave treatments, 4 IV iodide jugs, Baytril (antibiotics), Excede shots, 24 SMZ tablets per day (antibiotics), Gastrogard & Gastrix (ulcer guard), Bute and her treatment plan is very aggressive as it is a race against time to get the swelling down and is very costly. It has now been over 30 days of V's long road to recovery and the vet bills and treatments are continously nonstop. I would give everything I have to provide her with everything she needs but financially I cannot keep up. Day 1 we started with 105.8° fever, leg swollen from coronary band all the way up to her stifle, trembling, not able to walk and her good legs compensating so much they could barely hold herself up. By day 4 the swelling was so bad her hoof started to separate from the skin. Thankfully we were able to save her hoof by wrapping her whole leg every night to bring the swelling away from the coronary band and keeping the skin dry. The leg is still swollen and if it continues to stay swollen for another 5 months she could have permanent damage. I am regularly hand walking her to get blood circulation to her leg as well as using circulation standing wraps that promote blood circulation and lymphatic drainage but the swelling is still not where it should be by now.I am doing my best to remain hopeful and positive but it's hard not to feel defeated. I have been resilient with her every day sometimes 7+hrs per day and I will not give up on her! She will need to continue veterinary treatment until it has healed to normal, which no one can give an estimated time of when that will happen. She needs to continue regular magnawave treatments, atleast twice per week to get good blood flow and recover cellular function. As of now I can only afford once per week. I have exhausted all of my resources and this journey has not yet come to an end. So I am turning to my community, my friends and family, and asking for your help. Even the smallest donation is greatly appreciated! Verona is very important to many children (and adults) and play a huge role in their lives. She is a lesson horse, therapist and quite honestly a giant puppy. Her co-owners Demi Duarte, age 6 and Nisha Virk miss riding her dearly. With everything going on with the pandemic and transitioning to online virtual school, she needs a hobby to decompress from the daily stress. Riding Verona was her safe haven. Equine therapy is like no other and nothing makes me happier than seeing my 6 yr old little gal ride a 17.2 hh ex-race horse now jumper like a pro! She has learned so many life lessons from Verona that cannot be taught in a classroom. I so appreciate your time in reading my story.Thank you again for all of your support! I will post regular updates on her progress!
As of Jan 28th 2021, I had to transport her to Palm Beach Equine for colic surgery. They found and removed a softball sized enterolith stone from her colon. She has been in the hospital so far 5 days and will remain there until further notice of progress.
