Vernon Bellgraph is a 41 year old, hardworking auto-mechanic with a sweet, adorable, fun-loving 10 year old son, Max. For those of you who know Vernon, I don't need to say much about who he is because if you know Vernon, you love Vernon. For those of you who do not know Vern, he is the guy who is always smiling, always bringing laughter to a room, and a true joy to know. He is a loving father, a good friend, and a selfless man.
After two years of being misdiagnosed by his dermatologist, Vernon has now been diagnosed with Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The week of May 3rd, Vernon will be scheduled to start chemotherapy. His treatment will include two, potentially three, phases. The first phase includes one round of chemotherapy every three weeks, totaling six rounds. Phase two will be an autologous stem cell (aka: bone marrow) transplant that lasts five days, to be followed by intensive chemotherapy. Should phase two be unsuccessful, Vernon would need an allogeneic transplant from a stem cell donor. Additionally, the form of ALCL that Vernon has is called ALK-negative, which means that it is likely to reoccur within five years of remission. Clearly, Vernon has a very long road ahead of him.
We are asking for anyone who is able to help us support our friend, Vernon. He will be unable to work during and likely after treatment for quite sometime. Living expenses will still need to be taken care of, his son will still need to be cared for, and there will likely be hospital bills that will begin to add up quickly.
