Hi, my name is Dejuan Buford. I am raising funds for my former teammate Vernon Warren, a former Middle Tennessee State University Football Player. Vernon Warren, a starting cornerback for the Blue Raiders in 1984, was paralyzed while making a tackle in the Raiders’ November 3, 1984, win at Western Kentucky. Warren suffered a rare spinal injury where the disk between the third and fourth vertebrae had been ruptured. Life Flight flew him to Vanderbilt, where former team physician, Dr. Tom Johns, ordered immediate surgery that night.
After a few months, Warren began to show slight recovery while still having partial paralysis on his left side. Although he found several jobs over the years, he was always limited in what he could do because of the paralysis.
Vernon has been under the care of his mom in recent years. Vernon has had a heart attack and bypass surgery. He has also dealt with additional surgeries on his spine to try and correct the ongoing paralysis. Unfortunately, his situation has continued to worsen and now more than ever Vernon needs our help.
Vernon needs a handicap-accessible van that can be used to transport him back and forth to therapy for other daily activities. Vernon also needs to have his mom's home (where he lives) remodeled to be more handicap accessible for him.
Please help us in supporting former Blue Raider Vernon Warren #24.
