Hi everyone, my name is Vivian Stokes Allen , I am the one and only child of an incredible woman friend and mother Vernette Stokes. I am reaching out to sharing my mothers as well as myself and my family’s unfortunate and unexpected emergency circumstances that we have been dealing with.
On June 27th 2024 a Thursday to be exact my mother called and informed me that she was at Nash General Emergency Room after leaving work complaining of stomach
pains/cramps at the bottom
of her stomach and as vomiting that whole day at work. She was admitted to
Nash and informed by the Doctor that she needed to have her appendix removed by having a surgery performed that next morning. Friday morning came and she waited and waited the only thing she was told why the surgery hadn’t started because they were waiting to get potassium levels up before she could go into surgery. She was admitted and administered with IV fluids over night as well as that following morning. Later that afternoon she was informed she didn’t need the appendix surgery all her lab tests looked good, but they kept her a second night to administer more fluids. Saturday afternoon she was discharged and sent home
with antibiotics prescription. Sunday Monday Tuesday and Wednesday she still was in pain and kept saying she was going to get a second opinion from Tarboro or Greenville Hospital. Since she is such a hard worker and strong and independent woman she continued to go to work and only think she had stomach poison and it will eventually go away. July 4th Thursday 2024 I got a phone call from my Auntie Lena Stokes that my mom was in a car accident on her way to the ER in Rocky Mount. Once I arrived there I understood my mother was hit by another vehicle only to not stop at the scene and still continue to drive herself to ER where she actually made it to. Her car was totalled but she knew she didn’t have time to wait for a police car to come. The other driver was very much okay as well. Once I got to the back where she was I was informed she needed to go into emergency surgery ASAP they had no time to wait for her nutrient levels to build up. She went into surgery at 7:40pm and return at 1:20am. I was informed that she had an appendix burst two days before so she was filled with a lot of fluids and stool and a lot of contamination in her stomach which was not good at all. I waited and waited and waited by her side for her to wake up out of surgery for two weeks. Only for her to wake up on July 21st. We were informed that she had develop 2 abscess, peritonitis, and went into septic shock. She drained with sooo many antibiotics and they had to keep her sedated very much most of the day. She was also on the ventilator which could only be used for a maximum of 14 days on day 16 she went to have a tracheotomy surgery done and now has a trachea. She has been at UNC Nash Health at the heart center in the ICU unit since July 4th today makes a month. She is doing very well with all the procedures and problems that she has and had going on she is a blessed angel that god has his wings and last say so. She still has a ways to go in her recovery process. I would like everyone to please keep her in your prayers and in Vernette voice Trust God.
As being the only child and everyone in Rocky Mount that knows us knows she is my all. I could not have been on this road without the help and support of my amazing Auntie Lena Stokes who goes far and beyond to make sure her sister is getting the best help possible. Also Willie Norfleet aka Bobby I appreciate you so much for being there for your girl as well it’s not enough words that I could say to thank you guys. Special thanks and appreciation to the ICU team nurses especially and the doctors and surgeons and the whole team UNC Nash Health Care systems at the Hearth Center. I know without you guys experience and medical knowledge this would not be possible. Also to her employers and employees at K&W and Waffle House and to her family and friends in rocky mount she will be very much appreciated and thankful for all you guys prayers and support during this difficult time.
Lastly anything anyone could help donate would be very greatly appreciated the worst thing anyone would want is to come out of a hospital to no home. Me and my family and special friend Bobby have been maintaining her bills so any help would help.
THANK YOU ALL.. this took a lot for me to say and do because I’m a very shut in individual but it was time for me to share her story.
