Vern Sullivan Medical

Vern Sullivan was involved in a terrible accident on 12/27/23. After not feeling well for a few days he was involved in a single vehicle crash. EMT says that it appeared he suffered a medical emergency while driving. He lost control, went across 3 lanes of traffic, went down a small embankment and struck a tree. In addition to the numerous injuries sustained from the wreck, we learned he also had the flu which had turned into pneumonia. He was heading in the direction of his family doctor after work when the crash occurred Wednesday around 2 PM. Vern has a very long road ahead of him. Not only physically but mentally as well. The doctors have told us it is not uncommon to suffer from PTSD after such trauma. His list of injuries continues to grow daily. He is currently in Trauma ICU at Baptist. Injuries so far include fractured face, spinal fractures, numerous broken ribs, ruptured spleen, (which has since been removed completely due to internal bleeding) and collapsed lung. Before removing the spleen his blood pressure continued to drop especially when trying to give pain meds and sedation which caused him to be extremely uncomfortable. They are hoping since they discovered the internal bleeding and removed the spleen as well as 3 liters of blood from his stomach that his blood pressure will continue to be stabilized. Optometry discovered glass from the crash in his eyes last night and have attempted to retrieve it all. We were told that Vern will remain in in ICU for quite a few days but the hospital stay in all will be lengthy. He will require physical therapy as well. His medical history unfortunately is not the greatest as he is diabetic and suffered from a massive heart attack 2 years ago. The medical bills will be astronomical. In addition to Vern being out of work, his wife Tena will be missing work as well to be with him. In addition to multiple trips back and forth to the hospital unfortunately as we all know the bills do not stop coming. Above all we ask for prayers during this time. God is so good. If you are able to donate that would be great but if not please share and continue to pray! ❤️ We feel the prayers and appreciate all the love and kind words sent our way. Vern is a very loved grandfather to 3 sweet girls that are really having a hard time with his absence during this time. Due to flu, they will be unable to visit with him. He is a loving father, husband, brother and friend. Vern is an avid NC State fan. His little dog Lucy is missing him and crying looking for him. He currently has a chest tube to remove excess fluid and blood around the fractured ribs in addition to being incubated. The doctors main goal is to have the tubes removed soon as well as keeping his blood pressure maintained. I can't say thank enough to everyone who has prayed with us and sent such loving words during this extremely hard time.
