Hello, my name is Verla Jackson and it was my home that was severly damaged in an 8 hour standoff with police on Friday, March 29th due to a suspect breaking into my home and barricading himself in my garage;where he then had gunfire exchanges with the police for the next 8 hours until he finally died. I did escape from my home with my life but nothing else. My cats had to stay there until the next evening when I was finally allowed to return to my home to collect them. My home was the third home he broke into that day. My home was destroyed and is inhabitable for the next 6-8 months while repairs are made. While the insurance company works on fixing my home, there are unexpected expenses that I need help with as I pick up my life from this tragic event. My Jeep was also totaled in the event and there is a claim in with my insurance company for it. I've never asked for money from the public before, so this is very awkward for me to do. Some unexpected expenses are basic items like paying for extra totes to pack things in, storage fees, rent for where I'm staying while I'm still paying for a mortgage, anticipated car down payment while the insurance company determines what part they will pay for my car that is currently financed, vet bills for my cats to be checked out for any potential long-term damage from the tear gas & pepper spray that was put into my home during the standoff, and other expenses that seem to crop up daily I didn't anticipate.
