Helping The Phelps Family Rebuild Hope
Last year, just after her 11th birthday, Verity Phelps faced a terrifying health crisis. Sepsis led to a two-week hospitalization, including a week in the ICU. While medical professionals were able to save Verity's life, they were not able to discover what caused her body to begin shutting down. Since then, life hasn't been the same. Verity missed most of her fifth-grade year, and her days have been filled with endless specialist appointments and tests as they've desperately tried to understand the mysterious health challenges that continue to prevent her from living the vibrant life of an active child.
While doctors have struggled to pinpoint the exact cause of Verity's ongoing struggles, a recent discovery has shed light on a significant part of the puzzle: severe mold damage in their home.
Their house, over 130 years old, has unfortunately seen many "band-aid" fixes over the decades. A recent professional inspection revealed the extent of the mold is so severe that the home is no longer safe for long-term habitation without continued, serious health repercussions. The heartbreaking truth is that mitigating the mold would cost more than rebuilding the house entirely.
In this incredibly challenging time, an amazing wave of generosity has emerged. Many tradespeople are selflessly donating their time and talents to build a new, safe home for the beloved Phelps family. A testament to the incredible community around them, it’s truly like something out of "It’s a Wonderful Life", where people are stepping up to say, "I love you and I'm happy to help."
However, even with this incredible volunteer effort, we still need to raise funds for basic building materials to make this dream a reality. Imagine what we can achieve if we all come together!
At the heart of this family is Verity’s mom, affectionately known to so many as Miss Melissa. She's always been a tireless worker; her children have never known a time when she didn't have at least two jobs, all while coaching soccer teams and volunteering at school events. Miss Melissa poured her heart and soul into building a preschool, dedicating years—many without financial pay—to strengthening families through impactful education. Her joy has always come from contributing to her community.
Asking for help can be incredibly uncomfortable, especially during such a vulnerable time. That's why we, on behalf of the Phelps family, wanted to create this opportunity. We know there's an army of people whose lives have been touched by Miss Melissa's kindness and dedication. If each person who knows and loves this family could make even a small donation, it would make an immeasurable difference and help create a safe, healthy, and hopeful future for Verity and her family.
Let's show the Phelps family the depth of our collective love and support. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings them closer to a healthy home and a fresh start.
