Hi, my name is Ingrid, I'm originally from Brazil but have been living in Ireland for a good few years now. I'm raising funds for my first feature documentary Veredas, based in the Atlantic rainforest in Brazil.

'Veredas,' intertwines the narratives of two parts of my family — one rooted in the changing Atlantic rainforest and the other in the historical former capital of Brazil, marked by its slavery and gold mining past and a movement against the Portuguese crown that led to the country's independence.

This documentary is both a homage and a politically charged, ethnographic journey, that delves into the family's diaspora, unravelling the memories and lives of those who sought a better life and returned to a transforming Atlantic rainforest. Through a mosaic of observational scenes, candid interviews, and personal reflections, the film navigates the complexities of emigration, cultural identity, and the universal yearning for a more deliberate and sustainable existence.

'Veredas' is a mirror reflecting the aspirations and challenges of a community in transition, capturing the essence of a disappearing way of life. The film is a personal journey driven by the profound realization that, with my family's departure, the unique stories embedded in the heart of the rainforest risk fading away. So this is a heartfelt endeavour to preserve the heritage, memories, and the very existence of a people and their environment.

This is an independent production, meaning that up to here we've been trying to cover the filming costs of the first round of production by ourselves. We're actively applying for funding, however, we need to cover at least 30% of the costs through a collective fundraiser. I'm entering the second year of production with more filming happening in April 2024 and these funds will be vital to cover the expenses with logistics with transport, food, gear, and crew, and the commitment of replanting 1000 native trees in the region.
