Vere Technical - Powering Earning While Learning

Achievements

Vere Technical High has always been a powerhouse in sports, however, in recent years, the school has become a force to reckon with in the area of Scientific Innovation, Agriculture and Technology. Among its accolades in sports, academics and other extracurricular activities (4H, Robotics, Club, Environmental Club), there has been a vanguard of many projects which have boosted students learning ability and technical skills. These projects and previous ones spearheaded by this institution have stayed true to the school’s mantra and motto of offering students the “Knowledge, Skill and Discipline”, signature qualities of excellence, critical to navigating today’s work world.

Powering Earning through Learning Project
The Earning through Learning Chicken Project is our first project aimed to secure funding for the rehabilitation of our chicken farm, which will be used exclusively to support the needs of the key stakeholders, our students. Presently, the farm is in need of repairs and maintenance resources. The funds donated from our Alumni will be used to refurbish the existing chicken coop, purchase chicken, poultry feed and all required equipment for the efficient running of the facility. The estimated cost for this project is US $12,000 / approximately 1.7 million Jamaican dollars.

Benefits of this Project
This project is an initiative born out of a “2020 Christmas Wish List Idea”  which is focused on the rehabilitation of the chicken farm house which will inevitably promote a high level of self-reliance through its income generating potential, while offering support for student’s needs. The project will also function as a facilitator to other projects within the school and to the school feeding programme for dormitory students. Students will be engaged in this project significantly and will benefit from the practical experiences of maintaining the operations of the farm. The benefits of this project are far reaching also for the school as a whole, but its success is dependent on your kind support.

The Project
As part of the school’s wish list, it is proposed that the Vere Technical Alumni renders financial assistance in renovating the second chicken house to accommodate layers and broilers.  The first phase of the project is to renovate the chicken house. The farmhands and students will do the renovation.

The second phase is the purchasing of broilers and layers.   This project will assist us in both teaching and learning, while simultaneously functioning as an income generating venture for the institution.

Power our Earning while Learning Venture
For the ensuing year, January, 2021, we hope to garner more funds through your support in order for the project to run smoothly. Remember, your contribution today will enable students to “Earn as they Learn.”
