Let’s tell Alzheimer’s not today Satan!

Many people in Colusa are familiar with or have worked with Verdo Werre. He was the face of McNary-Moore Funeral Service for more than 20 years. He worked with hundreds of families over his tenure as primary Funeral Director and managing partner, caring for community loved ones at the end of their lives. He was very active in the community, including as a member of Colusa Rotary Club where he served as President for a term, Colusa Chamber of Commerce of, coaching youth sports and running chains for home football games for the Red Hawks. He was quite active with the local VFW an organization near and dear to him which he received a much treasured award for his years of service.

In 2021 Verdo and his long-time life partner, Nadine Benz, retired early so they could live, ride and enjoy life while they still could., relocating to Arkansas, opting for a slower pace of life and more land to house the animals they both loved having in their lives and caring for. Along with their beloved dogs and cats, they added both chickens and ducks to their little “Rancho Werreita” home in a rural area of the state.

Fast forward to today, Verdo is now facing an extremely difficult and heartbreaking chapter in his life, he’s been diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease. The changes are profound. Many of you are familiar with this horrible disease and the havoc is wreaks on the individual as well as their caregivers who can only watch as the person they love slowly slips away. After several months of doctor and specialist visits, Verdo has been approved for a brand-new drug therapy Leqembi that can help him retain as much of himself as possible, and slow the progression of EOA.

However, medical insurance is still trying to decide how much they will cover of this monthly drug infusion which costs $2300 or $27000 per year. While the insurance company does their thing it would be optimal if Verdo could start receiving these important infusions. We have no idea when the approval will happen; if you have a soft spot for Verdo and would like to help him get the medication he so desperately needs, please consider contributing to this page. 100% of your donations will go towards his medical needs, including extra care if needed and if by some reason there is extra cash accumulated, 100% of those donations will go directly to the Colusa Veterans of Foreign Wars. Please feel free to drop Verdo or Nadine a hello through Facebook or Messenger! They could really use your emotional support at this time too!
