At Verdánt Tulum we’ve spent the past 2 years building a center for organic growing, a permaculture farm, and ultimately an ecologically-minded eating establishment based on serving truly organic, locally grown food. We are the only restaurant in this region of Mexico to implement zero waste initiatives and a progressive seed-growing program with certified organic farm Mestiza De Indias. Now, like many in our industry, we have been forced to close our recently-opened business for an indefinite amount of time. As difficult as this decision has been for us, we feel it is our social responsibility and duty to do so.
We now find ourselves in a position of need and are humbly asking for your help.
The greatest challenges with which we are faced is to ensure that Verdánt will be able to reopen after this period of closure, to offer financial aid to our team of hard-working employees through these months, and to continue to support our rural farmers and small purveyors during these unprecedented times, as Verdánt socially supports and coexists through relationships with farmers, beekeepers, local fishermen, and purveyors of good practices in all of Yucatán. The livelihood of our staff and these family-run operations depends solely on regular and consistent business from the restaurant industry.
Being located in Mexico we do not qualify for Government Bailouts nor financial aid from the local government. In addition, Tulum is a small beach town that is totally reliant on tourism. This means that the effects of this economic crisis will likely be felt here for many more months to come, much longer than currently foreseen.
The current COVID-19 pandemic has brought our industry to its knees. Like so many restaurants around the world, this crisis is devastating. For us in particular, as a new, independently owned business, with all of our resources invested in this venture, we rely on each week's sales to pay our employees and suppliers.
The only way we can foresee maintaining our seed program and offer financial support until we can reopen Verdánt is with your assistance.
We are asking for your generosity to help us during these challenging times.
Small businesses appreciate any support that may be offered! We look forward to reopening and continuing to serve you and our community for years to come.
Sincerely, Maya, Benjamin and Team Verdánt Tulum.
