Hi, I am Alexandra Veras. I own a small business in Roslindale MA. Recently I had a family vacation to the Dominican Republic planned for this summer with my husband and our children. Unfortunately, while on vacation I fell extremely ill and was hospitalized. I’ve been grounded overseas in a third world country where I do not have medical insurance or medical coverage. I had to have an emergency surgery. I had a total hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes). Additionally, I had to recruit my own blood donors since people do not donate voluntarily. I’ve had to pay for all of my medical expenses out of pocket. After two months in the Dominican Republic and two surgeries now I’m battling an incision infection. I’m not sure when I’ll be cleared to fly and be able to return back home to Boston to my family and when I’ll be well enough to go back to work. This has been a true nightmare for our family, my husband is home alone trying to juggle work and our 3 school aged children.
To make matters worse I am behind on my small business rent by two months and the business is closed not generating business income. As you know, I am a Latino women small business owner. I’ve been in business for almost 7 years servicing the Roslindale, MA community as a Notary Public, document preparer and Tax preparer. It would be devastating if I lose my small business because of this unforeseen medical emergency. Any help with rent aid, business expenses and medical expenses would be greatly appreciated. My family and I thank you for your generosity from the bottom of our hearts.
