Vera Hears

Hello Everyone this fundraiser is for our daughter Vera. At the end of May 2020 Vera suddenly lost hearing in her right ear a condition known as sudden sensory neural hearing loss (SSHL). The cause was believed to be a virus mixed with a genetic predisposition for SSHL. Vera in the last two months has seen hearing specialists from Fort Madison, West Burlington hospital, and University of Iowa City Hospital Otolaryngology Clinic. Iowa city and West Burlington have determined the best course of action is to get a Cochlear Implant. This prodecure and all the tests will cost a significant amount and we are looking for help. Getting a cochlear implant sooner rather than later will allow Vera's brain to relearn surround sound the way she new it. Continued disconnect of sound in her right ear will unfortunately allow Vera's brain to rewire its understanding of surround sound making a Cochlear Implant not as effective if put in later in life. We may need to raise more than our current goal but $5,500 will be a good start. Dan and I will also seek local fundraising opportunities as well. We are determined to make sure our daughter has hearing in her right ear once again. This will allow Vera the quality of life she has always known so that she can get back to sports, and more importantly she will be able to do better in educational settings, and in crowded situations.
