40 anni de laReverdie. Festeggiamo… danzando!
Quest’anno l’ensemble di musica medievale laReverdie compie 40 anni.
Quattro decenni di ricerca, concerti, incisioni e viaggi attraverso uno dei patrimoni musicali più ricchi e affascinanti della nostra storia: quello che va dal XII al XV secolo.
In questi anni abbiamo percorso molte strade, esplorando repertori diversi e spesso poco conosciuti. Abbiamo dato vita a progetti tematici e a programmi nati su invito, come la ricostruzione di due messe tratte dal Codice avignonese di Apt, realizzata su commissione del Festival Laus Polyphoniae di Anversa.
Abbiamo dedicato interi lavori a grandi autori come Jacopo da Bologna, Guillaume Dufay, Francesco Landini, e a generi musicali fondamentali come le laude italiane, i mottetti veneziani e i madrigali italiani.
Molti di questi progetti sono diventati CD. Negli ultimi 15 anni, però, abbiamo creato anche numerosi programmi concertistici che non sono mai stati registrati: il mercato discografico è sempre più complesso e produrre un disco è oggi un impegno economico molto oneroso.
Sono stati 40 anni di attività intensa e continua, durante i quali abbiamo sempre mantenuto intatta la nostra identità.
Per dirlo con un gioco di parole: cantiamo suonando e suoniamo cantando.
Abbiamo preso parte a progetti speciali e collaborazioni d’eccellenza (che potete scoprire su lareverdie) e ci siamo affacciate anche alla musica contemporanea, interpretando brani scritti appositamente per noi.
Non ci siamo mai fermate — anche quando il cammino dei musicisti si è fatto più in salita.

Il nuovo progetto: la danza nel Medioevo
Per celebrare questo anniversario così importante, abbiamo scelto di realizzare un nuovo progetto discografico interamente dedicato alla danza, un tema che non avevamo mai affrontato in modo organico, ma che è centrale nella cultura e nella vita quotidiana medievale.
Sarà un progetto originale, basato su una ricerca che mette in luce la straordinaria varietà dei generi poetico-musicali legati alla pratica coreutica, superando l’idea che la musica per danza fosse soltanto strumentale.
Con questo progetto entreremo nei conventi e nelle corti, danzeremo accanto a laudesi e pellegrini, cantando e suonando insieme a un ensemble che, per l’occasione, si allargherà.
Vogliamo festeggiare i nostri 40 anni con amici musicisti e giovani talenti incontrati lungo il nostro percorso.
Come sempre, presteremo grande attenzione all’uso di strumenti storicamente documentati da fonti iconografiche e letterarie, per restituire un paesaggio sonoro coerente e ricco, fedele all’impianto musicologico del progetto.
Il risultato sarà un viaggio vivo e reale attraverso secoli e confini:
dai repertori devozionali dell’Italia centrale alle influenze d’Oltralpe, dai palazzi nobiliari alle piazze, dai monasteri ai sentieri dei pellegrini.
Un’esperienza da ascoltare… e da danzare.
La danza diventa così celebrazione della gioia di vivere, forma di socialità e specchio della quotidianità medievale.

40 Years of laReverdie. Let’s celebrate… by dancing!
This year, the medieval music ensemble laReverdie celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Four decades of research, concerts, recordings and journeys through one of the richest and most fascinating musical heritages in history: from the 12th to the 15th century.
Over the years, we have followed many different paths, exploring diverse and often little-known repertoires. We have created thematic projects and programmes commissioned by festivals, such as the reconstruction of two Masses from the Avignon Codex of Apt, produced at the request of the Laus Polyphoniae Festival in Antwerp.
We have devoted entire projects to great composers such as Jacopo da Bologna, Guillaume Dufay and Francesco Landini, as well as to fundamental musical genres including Italian laude, Venetian motets and Italian madrigals.
Many of these projects have been released on CD. Over the past 15 years, however, we have also developed numerous concert programmes that have never been recorded: the recording industry has become increasingly complex, and producing an album today represents a significant financial commitment.
These have been 40 years of intense and continuous activity, throughout which we have always preserved our artistic identity.
To put it as a play on words: we make the instruments sing and the voices play.
We have taken part in special projects and outstanding collaborations (all of which can be discovered on lareverdie) and have also ventured into contemporary music, performing works written especially for us.
We have never stopped — even when the musicians’ path has become more challenging.
The new project: Dance in the Middle Ages
To mark this important anniversary, we have chosen to embark on a new recording project entirely devoted to dance — a theme we had never explored in a systematic way, yet one that lies at the very heart of medieval culture and everyday life.
This will be an original project, grounded in research that highlights the extraordinary variety of poetic and musical genres associated with dance, challenging the long-held assumption that dance music was purely instrumental.
Through this project, we will enter convents and courts, dance alongside laudesi and pilgrims, singing and playing with an ensemble that, for this occasion, will expand in size.
We wish to celebrate our 40th anniversary together with musician friends and young talents we have encountered along our journey.
As always, we will pay particular attention to the use of historically documented instruments, drawing on iconographic and literary sources, in order to recreate a rich and coherent soundscape, faithful to the musicological foundations of the project.
The result will be a living, tangible journey across centuries and borders:
from the devotional repertoires of central Italy to transalpine influences, from noble palaces to public squares, from monasteries to pilgrims’ paths.
An experience to be listened to… and danced.
Dance thus becomes a celebration of the joy of life, a form of social interaction, and a mirror of medieval daily life.
