Venezuela in Boston / LASA 2019 Congress

Tax deductible
Latin American Studies Association’s Section on Venezuelan Studies (SVS) is conducting this crowdfunding campaign in order to support Venezuelan researchers’ attendance to LASA 2019 Congress to be held in Boston, on May 24-27.
Due to the extremely difficult economic conditions faced by Venezuelan scholars, it has become necessary to ask for donations in order to cover registration fees, airfare, as well as lodging and other expenses during the days of the congress.
With your donations, LASA’s Section on Venezuelan Studies will finance between 20 to 30 participants with partial or full scholarships, which will allow the presentation at the congress of research on relevant topics to understand the current dynamics of Venezuelan society. We aspire to award 5 full scholarships ($ 2,000) to Venezuelan academics active in the country's universities and between 12 and 20 partial scholarships ($ 1,500, $ 1,000 or $ 500) to Venezuelan scholars who are outside of Venezuela and do not have a full-time position at an institution that grants them founding for research and attending conferences. Scholarships funds could be used to cover the following expenses: Congress registration fees, airfare from place of residence to Boston, lodging in Boston and meal expenses during the congress.
Scholarships will be awarded upon acceptance of the application and in accordance with the availability of funds obtained in this crowdfunding after an evaluation carried out by a committee of members of the SVS. Applicants for the scholarships must be active members of the SVS and have papers accepted by the 2019 Congress.
The Venezuelan academic papers already accepted for the LASA 2019 Congress include studies on political regime, authoritarianism, party system, mechanisms of dialogue and negotiation, relations with Russia and China, rentism, post-Chavism, military operations of repression, freedom of speech, media system, internet control policies, the Gran Colombia, political imaginary, artistic representations, political transition, Nation narrative, urban violence, Venezuelan literature, and, of course, forced migration.
Disclaimer: Contributions for this campaign are “donations” and that there is no return on investment expected.
