Dear friends,
My name is Ramon Paz, of Fly Fishing Los Roques. On June 24, 2026 two unprecedented earthquakes struck Venezuela. The two earthquakes have caused major impacts in La Guaira—the coastal area close to Caracas that serves as the main hub for anglers traveling to Los Roques. The devastation has been catastrophic; lives have been lost, many buildings have collapsed and families are facing unprecedented struggles .
While Los Roques itself was not affected, most of our community members, including guides, captains, lodge staff, and their families, reside in La Guaira. During these difficult times, we are asking the fly fishing community to help us raise funds to help our Fly Fishing Los Roques Family.
Our immediate priority is to ensure our team at Los Roques has access to essential supplies: food, medicine, and water. Although we do not anticipate shortages on the island, there may be delays in getting relief efforts to the atoll.
Fly Fishing Los Roques is solely focused on providing financial support to families in La Guaira so they can cover their urgent needs and, if necessary, relocate to safer areas like Los Roques, Margarita Island, or other cities in Venezuela. In the coming weeks, we will continue to offer financial aid to those who need it most. This is not an easy task, but I feel a deep responsibility to do everything possible to help our community recover and rebuild.
I am setting up this GoFundMe effort to ask for your financial support. Any contributions, no matter the size, are appreciated and valued. If you are unable to donate, please share this fundraiser with family, friends or anyone connected to Los Roques.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference. Thank you for your time, generosity, and support during these challenging times. Together, we can help our community heal and move forward.
Ramon Paz
