Velveeta needs surgery to remove 1 or possibly 2 Salivary Glands that have backed up in his mouth. It will cost between 6-8 thousand dollars since it's a specialized oral surgery. It's causing swelling in his mouth that is making it more difficult for him to eat and drink. His surgery is scheduled for the morning of June 8th and will be in the hospital for 1-2 days afterwards recovering. Velveeta is the sweetest cat either Me or Holly have ever met and everyone loves him the second they meet. He has an amazing personality and he loves going on walks on his harness. He loves exploring and finding ways to get in trouble. He makes everyones lives better that he touches and loves to cuddle. When we got him in August he had medical issues including Upper Respitory Infection, Double Ear Infrection, Tapeworm, Conjunctivits and he was underweight. Since then he has been diagnosed with EGC (Eosinophlic Granuloma Complex) which means he has to be on a specialized diet becuase his body overreacts to certain allergens and causes ulcers and swelling. We first noticed the mouth swelling on Thursday night and it was severe enough that it was pushing his tounge to the side. We took him to the emergency Vet and they tried to help him by giving him a steroid but it failed to help. We then took him to our normal vet and that's when we found the blocked salviatory gland but unfortunately they don't do oral surgery there. We then found Pinnacle Veterinary Services in PA who are wonderful and are conducting his surgery.
