Velton Hayworth Fund - Read This

Donation protected
This crowd fund is to show support for Velton Hayworth while he is going through a difficult time.

If you don’t know Velton personally, and you live in DFW, there is a very high probability that you have seen his pictures or been captured in them.  Being a photographer for DFW.com & The Star-Telegram, Velton has captured numerous concerts, events, celebrations, news stories, sporting events and more all throughout North Texas.

Did you go see Pat Green back in January at Billy Bob’s?  If you did, I bet you can find a picture of you here http://tinyurl.com/lzdah4r.

Maybe you were simply hanging out in downtown Fort Worth this night http://tinyurl.com/m2oz8s8.

Or partying out in Deep Ellum a few nights before Christmas on this night http://tinyurl.com/lyoazbp

Chances are really high that you have been captured at some point having a great time by Velton.  In fact, do a Google Image search for “Velton Hayworth” online and take a look at some great pictures and events he has captured for us.  You won’t find any pictures of him because he is the one holding the camera.

But let’s get back to what is going on with Velton today and why this GoFundMe campaign was set up.

At the beginning part of this year, Velton, who also works at Malone’s Pub in Fort Worth and whom I’ve known for years, began to tell me about some pains he had been having.  I didn’t think much of it at the time since he has always maintained an active lifestyle and can literally do a kick over my head.  A few weeks later he visited a hospital and learned that he had a tumor on his lower spine.

The days leading up to Velton’s surgery were very stressful.  There was a realistic chance that the surgery could have been fatal or that he would lose mobility in his foot that would prevent him from doing the jobs that he loves.  On March 27th Velton had the first of two surgeries intended to remove the tumor from his spine.  Fortunately, the surgery went well and he did not lose the use of his foot.  However, he spent the next 39 days in the hospital and in rehabilitation at the VA hospital in Dallas.

Last Monday, Velton was allowed to return home to heal so that he may be able to return to work again after a month or two.  This week I saw him for the first time out but with the use of a cane to assist him while he recovers.  He was in good spirits considering what he had gone through and very eager to return to work as soon as possible.  Although the VA hospital took care of the medical expenses for the surgery and the rehab, there were many bills that still needed to be paid while he was recovering and I’m sure you can imagine what a few months worth of rent, utilities etc. can add up to.

On Tuesday, Velton returned to the hospital due to some pain he had been feeling.  They examined him and realized that he had a severe infection close to his spine.  He was immediately re-admitted and underwent a painful surgery on his side to try and clear the infection yesterday.  At this point, we do not know when he will be released again.

I set up this GoFundMe account so that we could help Velton with his expenses while he focuses on his recovery.  He has enough going on right now and could really use our help so he can recover and get back to doing what he loves.

Please share this so that we can help Velton and show him the support and appreciation for all of the work he has done capturing what makes North Texas great.

Thank you.
