Yesterday morning on Dec 29th around 5.50 am, we were notified by our staff that someone broke in to the cafe and took all of our electronics, money and some groceries.
We called the police, got a report, and filed our insurance claim which may take months. It has been tough for everyone this year during the pandemic and our business has suffered as well.
The person who broke in was very professional and knew what they were doing, but was most likely doing this out of desperation and it is very sad for us all.
We know everyone is hurting which has resulted in people seeking desperate measures, but it does not make this loss any easier to swallow. We are hurting and just trying to scrape by to save our business and employees.
We opened this campaign to answer so many of your kind calls to support the Velo Rouge Cafe. Our losses are approximately around $4,000 or so, to replace all ipads, 2 Square POS system, 5 tablets, money drawer, broken window etc.
Our insurance may cover some damages but we don't know yet if they will, as they might deny all kinds of Covid- related claims, and as this is happening all over the city and country it may take some time for us to hear anything. We understand that everyone is suffering right now. We hope you will support us as part of your community.
We want to be around as the place that serves up fresh delicious coffee and food to all those along your bike route, as your neighborhood hangout spot, and favorite breakfast nook.
