Eagle Scout Project

Donation protected
My name is Matthew Kelley and I am working on my Eagle Scout Project.

My Eagle Project is to build a hammock star at Paul B. Johnson State Park. A hammock star is basically posts concreted into the ground in the correlating points of the compass. A hammock star has a center post and 8 surrounding posts. The posts will have eye bolts screwed into them. Campers will be able to hang their hammocks around the hammock star and cause less damage to the surrounding trees and enable groups of scouts or families to hammock camp in a closer area.

Any funds that are raised beyond what is needed to build the hammock star will be used to build picnic tables for the state park. The state park is currently in need of additional picnic tables throughout the park. Our local Lowes has agreed to discount lumber for his project.

Why would I choose this for my Eagle Scout Project? I am passionate about camping and particularly hammock camping. My friends and fellow scouters often have a hard time finding areas to put our hammocks. Often, there are 1 or 2 boys that are left out and can't hang their hammocks with the rest of the group. I think this project will be a great solution to not only provide additional hammock camping space but also to protect the trees and environment from unnecessary bark wear and decay.

For materials I'll need to purchase pressure-treated lumber for the posts, concrete to secure the posts into the ground and eyebolts so campers can hang their hammocks. Most of the tools for the project will be either brought by friends and family or donated.

Any amount you can donate to help me complete my Eagle Scout project would be appreciated.
