Mallory came into my life when she was only about 6 weeks old. She's 13 years old now, making her the longest relationship I've ever had with an animal. I love her dearly and the past few years have been a bit difficult, watching her health decline. There have been plenty of (very expensive) tests done already, but nothing has yielded concrete answers as to why her body is rejecting nutrients. The vet says that her muscles are atrophying, which is why she's had trouble balancing recently. They have her on a round of steroids to attempt to repair the damaged tissue, but the main concern is how dehydrated she is. Without those crucial answers, we can't provide the proper care, and without funds, I can't do anything at all. The recent move (and bills that I've had to handle as a result), have left me financially barely above water. Not to mention, I've maxed out the credit card I have for her vet visits twice now because of the aforementioned tests they've had to run. As pet insurance hasn't been an option for years now, I've had to foot the bill myself for all her medical expenses, which hasn't been easy, given that she's on a special diet and regularly taking medicine to help with nausea. She's still eating and drinking normally, which leads me to believe there's still a chance at giving her a better quality of life in her last years.
