emergency travel fund
I moved to Fort Lauderdale in June 2010 to take care of my grandfather who at the time was 85 years old. After surviving prostate & colon cancer he died of natural causes at the ripe old age of 93 in March 2017.
I have been living in Grandpa's house since his death however, last year the bank took back possession of the house due to a reverse mortgage. He told me before his death to give the house back to the bank and I was prepared to eventually have to leave the house.
It took me 22 months to find a job and I was only able to secure a position at $10 per hour. In this economy, it's very difficult to save money to do much of anything while still having to pay utilities, buy monthly maintenance meds, food, etc.
I and a friend decided to move in together since neither one of us could afford anything on our own. Since the middle of December 2019, we applied for )and waited for an answer)at a charitable organization to help with the move in cost ($3600; 1st month, last month, & deposit.) Last Friday, (January 31, 2020) I was informed this plan fell through due to lack of funds. Since then I've been scrambling to find other means (other charitable organizations) of which to fund a move in to no avail. I must be out of the house by next Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
Despite my best efforts to stay in Florida, unfortunately no charitable organization has any available funds right now to help so closely after the holidays and I find myself having to move out of state to my sister's house in Forest Park, Ohio. And if I'm not out by Wednesday, February 12, 2020, I become officially homeless (one of my greatest fears!) And now I find I cannot afford to rent a car, U-Haul truck, bus or plane ticket to get to Ohio.
Ideally, I'd like to rent a U-Haul so I can get myself, my cat, & my possessions back to Forest Park. But short of that, any way to Ohio is my immediate goal.
Thank you all in advance for your kindness and help in getting me back to the safety of my family in Ohio. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity in helping me. God bless you all.

Ruthie Vera
