During my journey here at Loma Linda University, as I pursue my Masters of Public Health, each student is required to complete a field practicum. My goal is to partner with the Health Ministry Department of the Middle East North Africa Union of SDA (MENAU) in Lebanon for my practicum.
In August the MENAU Health department in collaboration with the Egypt Sudan Field will be implementing a health expo in the city of Assiut in Upper Egypt. In September the MENAU health department in collaboration with the General Conference Health department will be working with the Jordanian Ministry of Health to provide health expos in the city of Amman. This will be the first time the SDA church has done health projects of this magnitude in the country of Jordan.
During my time there, I will be in Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan learning how to plan and implement a health expo, the various stations, how they are run and the philosophy behind the expos. Additionally, I will be able to see behind the scenes in the Union Health office, see how a new health department gets started in a Union and a have wonderful chance to make a practical lasting impact.
The anticipated dates of duration for this practicum will be July 19 until Sepetember 20. Housing and food will be provided during my different stops. However, I will have to raise money to support my traveling expenses. I am hoping to raise $2,500 to fund my travel this summer. As some of you may know, when I enrolled in Loma Linda University last fall my long-term goal has always been to get involved in medical evangelism and work towards developing a new model for medical evangelism. Being able to to work with a professional functioning in the career I eventually hope to work in would be a great opportunity for me.
