Michael Sweazy October 11, 2014:
"Metastiic carcinoma. Long term plans quickly become short term snippets, preparations, and glorious memories. Treatments will begin this week. Life is fininte... Love is not. If you find the time… I love you all so much...."
Michael Sweazy is my friend. His cancer manifested itself as tumors in the lungs and brain. He has been fighting, since his diagnosis in September 2014. In February 2015, after several courses of chemo, he received the good news that his tumors had shrunken significantly. In May 2015, however, new scans showed that the Cancer had now metastasized in his Liver. He continues to fight.
My name is Terry Miller and I've known Michael for 40 years. We met during college in Sacramento, CA, where we both majored in Theater. He's the kind of friend who comes along once in a lifetime. We supported each other through many rough times and celebrated the good times. Though we fell in and out of touch, each time we reunited it felt like only minutes had passed.
Many years ago Michael moved back to his home town in Indiana to be closer to the family he adores and on several occasions over the years we were fortunate enough to visit one another. Our favorite places to visit were Traverse City, MI and Bodega Bay, CA, where we created many fond memories including: enjoying the Cherry Festival in Traverse and eating oysters on the half shell in Bodega.

I am far from Michael’s only friend in CA, however. If you know him, then you know that he leaves an imprint on your life. There are many other people here in CA, including Lynn and Stephen, who have not been able to visit as often as they’ve wanted.
So here is my plan: I want to bring Michael to them.
I want to bring us all together in a setting without the distractions of our daily lives. Somewhere where we can immerse ourselves in one another and focus on the good times we’ve had and enjoy the presence of old friends. I need your help to do it.
This is an impromptu Make-a-wish style all expenses paid trip. I am asking for enough to fly Michael and his caretaker round-trip on a first class flight from Indiana to SFO. I would also like to cover the expenses for a rental vehicle to get us all to Bodega Bay and rent a house for four days. I don’t know if his doctors will let him eat oysters on the half shell, but damnit I’m going to try!
Anything you give will go directly to fund Michael’s trip to visit his friends in CA.
Michael Sweazy, May 12:
"...I am not ready to concede, and the battle goes on…
As for the time ahead, I will be having treatments every 21 days and have no idea how my body will respond. All I can do is try. I am not going to cry “Gloom & Doom”, and I am not going to let this happen without putting up a good fight. Your support and prayers are one of the key ingredients in that fight. I’m not thinking that this is the end, but considering this to be another beginning. That being said, I treasure the time I have with my loved ones, and hope to still have some quality time together no matter the outcome..."
