We are writing on behalf of our friend, Uriel, and his family during one of the most painful and destabilizing moments of their lives.

On June 4, 2025, Uriel was taken into ICE custody in Frederick, MD. In an instant, a loving father, devoted husband, and hardworking provider was ripped away from his family. He was the primary breadwinner for his household and left behind his wife and their four children, ranging in age from just 10 months to 26 years old. His sudden absence created an immediate and overwhelming financial crisis for the family.

In just a matter of weeks, their lives were turned completely upside down. At the time of his detention, his wife had recently given birth and was caring for a newborn baby. She is breastfeeding, which severely limits her ability to work and earn income. Since Uriel’s detention, the family has been forced to make heartbreaking decisions simply to survive. Two of their eldest sons were enrolled at the University of Maryland; one had to pause his studies to work full-time, while the other is now juggling a part-time job to help support the family.

Despite these sacrifices, Uriel's family has done everything in their power to remain financially independent. Unfortunately, they were recently hit with an unexpectedly large electricity bill from Potomac Edison—a bill they simply cannot afford on their own. While they are actively trying to resolve the balance, the company has issued a shut-off notice unless a portion of the bill is paid by January 28. At the same time, rising food costs and monthly rent have made it increasingly difficult to keep food on the table and maintain stable housing for their family of five.

This fundraiser exists to help Uriel's family stay afloat during this incredibly uncertain time—to keep their lights on, food in their home, and a roof over their heads while they navigate circumstances no family should have to face alone.

Any contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping the family in your thoughts. Your kindness, support, and solidarity mean more than words can express.
