Today has been overwhelming. I went into class to take an exam when I got a call from my dad telling me that my dog, Fredo, had been hit by a car. He’s been staying with my dad for the past few months so he could run on the farm and have more space while I juggle nursing school, work, and being a single mom. Somehow he wandered onto the road and was struck.

Fredo is stable for now and is on pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection. Thankfully, there are no broken bones or fractures, but the vet is concerned about possible internal bleeding. He was sent home with me because I couldn’t afford the thousands of dollars needed for more scans and potential surgery. The bill now is 1200$ for the xrays & medication .

Right now, it’s a 50/50 situation. He could decline and I may have to make the heartbreaking decision to humanely let him go… or he could fight through this and recover. I’m staying in close contact with my vet and doing everything I can.
