Jerry’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hi everyone!

As some of you may know, Jerry has been through a tough couple of weeks. On July 27th, Jerry was taken by ambulance to Geisinger CMC after his wife, Diane, found him unresponsive and could not wake him up that morning for work. In the emergency room, he was intubated and found to have a build up of toxins in his blood and a stomach bleed, both caused by liver disease. Jerry has been battling liver disease for years, but it had progressed to severe liver failure, where his liver and kidneys were shutting down. Jerry and his family were faced with the reality that a transplant was his only hope for a healthy future.

After over a week in the ICU, Jerry was transferred to the Einstein Medical Center of Philadelphia on August 5th and was accepted for their transplant service. After days of testing and procedures, Jerry was approved for a liver transplant. By the grace of God, he and his family got the news on August 11th that he would be getting his transplant the next morning. On August 12th, after 8 long hours of surgery, Jerry received his liver transplant with no complications. It truly was a miracle!

Since his surgery, Jerry has remained at the Einstein Medical Center and has been progressing wonderfully. He has worked his way out of the ICU and will be transferred to the Einstein Moss Rehab today, August 22nd, to start his long road to recovery. He will remain there for a few weeks as he works to regain his strength and stability and get back on his feet. Once he is strong enough, he will then be moved into the Howie’s Gift of Life House so he can be nearby for his doctor appointments in Philadelphia three times per week.

With all the blessings and miracles, there is still a very long road ahead for Jerry and his family. The cost of the transplant procedure, medical expenses, and ongoing care has placed a significant financial burden on him and his family. He continues to need assistance with all daily activities, which has prevented his wife from working full time.

Any contributions made to this GoFundMe will directly help cover the extensive medical bills, medications, and other essential expenses that come with a procedure of this magnitude. We want to take the time to say we are incredibly grateful for any help you can provide. If you're unable to donate, your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes are also so greatly appreciated. Jerry wouldn’t have come this far without the continued love and support from friends and family. Thank you all for supporting his new chance at life!!
