Help Harvey & Family
Donation protected
On Sunday 13th, our wild and adventurous 12-year-old Harvey suffered a devastating crash while out riding his bike with friends requiring SES Rescue and ambulance care.
His injuries are extensive including badly broken neck and back:
• Burst fractures to his C3 and C4 vertebrae
• Compression fractures from T3 to T6
• A broken wrist
• A fractured sternum
• Multiple fractured and bruised ribs
We are incredibly grateful that his spinal cord was not damaged — a miracle given the severity of the crash. Harvey is currently being treated at The Royal Children’s Hospital and faces a long, difficult recovery ahead.
For approximately the next 3 months, Harvey will need to wear a combined neck and back brace 24/7, severely limiting his ability to walk, shower, dress, or use the toilet independently. He will require constant care and support at home.
His mum, Mal, a single parent already carrying an enormous load. Harvey’s younger brother, Roman (11), is undergoing treatment for acute leukaemia, diagnosed in 2023. His treatment has involved intensive chemotherapy, multiple hospital stays, and ongoing travel to Melbourne — forcing Mal to take a full year of unpaid leave from work and regularly depleting what little carers and annual leave she has left now that she is back at work and balancing ongoing treatment.
The family never asked for financial help during Roman’s cancer battle, managing with strength — but two major medical events so close together have placed an immense emotional, practical, and financial burden on them.
How You Can Help
Funds will go directly towards:
• Support at home for Harvey’s daily care and rehabilitation
• Clothing and supplies to accommodate his back and neck brace
• Travel, parking, and medical costs for ongoing treatment and check-ups
• Other practical essentials while Malory is unable to work
This is a resilient family who always try to manage independently, now need a little help. Your kindness will make a real and immediate difference.
