David Arguin is a nurse, a husband, a father, a grandfather and a brother who suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke on 11/24/19, just a few days before Thanksgiving. The stroke caused him to have blood in four of his ventricles, requiring a drain in his brain. He was intubated and later had a tracheotomy put in to continue ventilation and has had various surgeries for his feeding tubes. He has a complete right-sided deficit as of now. David has also faced various problems with infections and setbacks that have stalled his moving forward into rehab. He has spent 3 weeks in intensive care at Maine Medical Center and when he is stable enough he will go to New England Rehab in Portland for acute rehab.
He is the primary provider of income for his household as his wife is disabled and unable to work any longer. David has also been a caregiver for his wife and takes care of his granddaughter several times a week when his daughter works in the emergency department at Pen Bay Medical Center. He raised his two daughters as a single father in the 1980’s when it was very uncommon for single fathers to do in Maine.
The family is working with a social worker to get David the help he needs but it will be a few months before that is finalized and the benefits are available to him. In the meantime, they are living off the small amount of savings they have while he is in the hospital. He will be in rehab for quite some time and since he is the only one who works, the family is taking an especially hard hit since he is still at Maine Medical Center until it is appropriate to move him to rehab. This has been a tremendously devastating and life changing event for his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, co-workers and friends. The financial impact is becoming greater each day and there is no guarantee that he will ever work again as a nurse.
David has done so much in his life for those around him and has always been a giver. For the first time in his life, he is unable to be a giver and finds himself in the position of needing help himself. Please consider donating to his cause in his time of need, no amount is too small and ALL help is appreciated more than his family can express in this difficult time.
