Hi all, I just want to start by thanking each and everyone that has kept Amelia in their prayers and thoughts in this time. I truly believe this has made all the difference and God hears it all.
Amelia has undergone another major open heart surgery here at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. This one was a big one (12+ hours). Multiple severe and life threatening issues were targeted in this repair. The surgery was quite intense, so much so that her cardiology team specifically recommended that a very specific surgeon be the one to perform this surgery - thankful everyday for their wisdom and genuine care.
Getting to this point has been a journey that started earlier this year. After 2-3 years of not getting any exams/echos done due to Covid, we finally were able to get her an echo in April of this year. That’s when we started to get news that her heart was not looking great even from the basic imagery done in Guam.
All the familiar emotions of needing emergency care came into play again. I sought out a specific doctor that could help her get the care she needed. And I’m so grateful to have her in a place experienced with pediatric heart issues and the specific surgical risks associated with Williams Syndrome.
All things considered, she has a long recovery here that will require us to stay until she can safely travel back home. She is still in the ICU and is having some ups/downs with her recovery. She was on bypass for quite a long time which has taken a toll on her body and makes recovery a bit more challenging. But she’s so strong and moving in the right direction.
So we are taking one thing at a time. Praising God through it all and trying to keep our eyes on his promises…even when it’s hard.
Any help you have to share with us to help manage through this time is most sincerely appreciated. Your prayers, thoughts and help are never unnoticed or forgotten. I know for a fact that Amelia loves each and every one of you. I can’t wait to share more of her journey and love with you all.
If you ask her what she wants to do, she will say, “I just like to smile and make people happy!”
How much more genuine can a human soul get and I’m so blessed to be her mom!
