Hello, my name is Simone, and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my partner, Chris. In 2020, Chris, who was just 18 years old at the time, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His battle with this illness was devastating, involving intensive IV and oral chemotherapy, a life-saving bone marrow transplant and prolonged hospital stays due to serious complications like blood septicaemia, high fevers, low blood pressure, tachycardia and breathing difficulties. He had feeding tubes, spent most of his days sleeping & required multiple tests and biopsies. Despite these challenges, Chris showed immense strength and resilience.

Since then, Chris has been on the path to recovery, and we are deeply grateful for the progress he’s made. However, his journey has not been without its struggles. Chris was not an Australian citizen when he fell ill, which means he is now burdened with overwhelming medical debt. To manage this, he has been working tirelessly, often seven days a week, juggling two jobs just to make ends meet.

The financial strain has been immense and it is taking a toll on him both physically and emotionally. As he continues to attend follow-up appointments at the Royal Adelaide Hospital with specialists, including oncologists, cardiologists, and lung specialists, we want to ensure he can focus on his health and future without the weight of medical debt hanging over him.

We’re reaching out to our community for support. Your generosity can help Chris pay off these bills and finally put this challenging chapter of his life behind him. While we acknowledge how fortunate we have been with the treatment and success Chris has received, it would mean so much to be able to help him get back on his feet so he can start working towards his future.
