Have you ever had a pet so dear to you, that you would do almost anything for them? My cat Luna is one such cat.

Everything started in late June of this year when I began to notice blood in Lunas urine. I watched her closely, monitored her voids and by July 10th I had her into the vet. This visit cost me over $300 and within this first initial visit, we found out she had a bladder stone which at this point they had suggested I put Luna on medicated pet food; and I’m sure many of you know this isn’t the cheapest thing. This specialty food had a 50/50 chance in dissolving the stone so the situation would not get worse.

I was supposed to take Luna back to the vet after a couple weeks, but I ended up bringing her back in before that time came. Luna had an allergic reaction from the food causing sores about the size of pencil erasers around her ears, eyebrow and on her ribcage. She would scratch (as animals do) and would rip open these sores which didn’t allow for healing time. At this point, the vet had me discontinue the food (I had bought in hopes of her recovery), and they gave her a steroid injection. Instructions this time from the vet was to bring her back in a couple of weeks again to see how she was doing. I tried, but between the two vet visits and the steroid shot within a week and a half, I couldn’t afford to bring her back in when I was supposed to. This to any pet owner is hard and painful to see and watch your fur baby go through such an ordeal and you feeling helpless with sleepless nights, all when trying to find a solution.

Throughout the time this was going on, our family was cleaning up urine and fecal messes throughout our house. Constantly cleaning and sanitizing, people were getting irritated (which is to be human), but also felt so bad and tried to comfort my sweet Luna in this awful time. Sometimes she would try to go to the litterbox but nothing would come of it. We could all see her lack of comfort.

The first week of September things took a harder turn. Accidents were more frequent, blood in the urine was ever present, Luna had the urge to urinate but couldn’t, and overall, Luna just could not get comfortable. She was not the Luna we all knew and loved.

September 12th:

Monies were lent to me to get her back in to the vet with another ultrasound, pain medication for three days ($$$), and for a short time my Luna was a bit more comfortable with the medication she was given.

Bad news:

She had two stones that were slightly bigger in her bladder now and they were scraping her bladder. If any fragments were to come off of the stones, they would be coming through her urethra and scraping her there too. They told me that they couldn’t tell me how long she had before her urethra would close up and begin an infection that would travel to her kidneys which would then be a life-threatening medical emergency known as a urethral obstruction. This condition prevents a cat from urinating, causing urine to back up and cause dangerous toxins to rapidly build up. Untreated it can cause death within 24-48 hours. My heart sank. I’ve already had many sleepless nights, cry sessions, worried myself sick and now I hear my cat needs surgery or she's going to die. Since I found this out I have non-stop been applying for more jobs and even selling what I can just to find a way to pay for what the vet said was my and Luna's last option.

Last Option:

The vet said they can assist in Euthanizing Luna (NOT AN OPTION), or surgery. I have to get her in as soon as possible if she is to make it. I cannot lose my sweet Luna. I really need help here. I have a few hundred saved and I have been applying for grants and the family has offered what money they can afford as well. Like I said, I am trying to find another job to be able to pay for this and my living expenses as well. Grants take time, possibly time Luna doesn’t have. I am reaching out asking for help. My goal is $3500 per the vet estimate. This does not include any kind of after care or possible medications. I am only asking help with the amount of the surgery/anesthesia etc that the estimate gave me. I just want to get the surgery to save her life. I have no guarantees as of yet as far as grants. Please help my Luna, she needs to survive!
