Hello friends & neighbors,
For those of you who I have not yet met, my name is Jessica Skipitaris. I am the owner of Edgewater Playhouse, an early childhood activity studio in the Edgewater neighborhood. In June of 2018, I opened the doors to my dream come true. For nearly a decade before the opening, I had the honor of working with many families who had young children in Edgewater, and because of this, I learned that our neighborhood had a huge need for an indoor space for the early childhood age group. When I then became a parent, it was clearer than ever that Edgewater Playhouse was meant to be.
It goes without saying that the demands of business ownership are incredibly high, especially for a startup business like mine. I have worked 6-7 days per week for nearly two years without a paycheck. Reaching out for help here is not to pay the owner, but to keep the business afloat. The playhouse has been closed since Monday, March 16, at which point the ability to generate revenue was immediately impacted. With full disclosure, the dollar amount mentioned here will exactly cover two months of Edgewater Playhouse bills including the cost of rent, utilities, payroll, insurance, business startup loans, and all of the taxes and fees that add up.
As hard as it is to ask for help in a time when everyone is in need, I am asking you to help give the playhouse a chance so we can still be here for you and your family when it’s time to get back to normal. We are all hopeful that everyone will be able to return to their daily routine in a safe and comfortable way. For the kiddos in the Edgewater neighborhood and beyond, Edgewater Playhouse is their safe and comfortable space. Words cannot express how incredibly grateful I will be for any help you may provide, but the smiles on the little ones’ faces when they get to return to the place they love will say it all.
