Tax deductible
Sri Lanka is in the midst of an unprecedented crisis resulting from years of poor governance, which has now been further exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic and other global downturns. The situation has become so dire that children are struggling to find access to lifesaving antibiotics, diabetes patients are running out of insulin, and cancer patients are without essential chemotherapy drugs. According to international aid agencies, it is only a matter of time before the entire system collapses and hundreds of thousands of innocent lives are put in grave danger, because a drug that you and I may take for granted, is now beyond their reach.
This is why we, a group of Sri Lankans from different corners of the world, banded together to form #Arogya, a GoFundMe campaign, with the hope of alleviating the suffering of those without access to life-saving treatment through YOUR GENEROSITY. For #Arogya to succeed, we need you, not only as a donor, but also as an advocate and a partner of #Arogya.
Please donate what you can, and even if you are not in a position to donate, please help the cause by spreading the word.
For now, we have set a modest goal of USD 25,000. However, we believe that with YOUR HELP, we will far exceed this goal, and together, we can help save thousands of lives.
For this purpose, we partnered with both the Hospital Services Support Foundation (HSSF), a 501-c-3 non-profit organization in the U.S. with a mission of helping to alleviate the suffering of disadvantaged patients in developing countries, and #MedicalHelpSriLanka, another campaign that was formed to alleviate the ongoing crisis. HSSF has graciously allowed the funds raised from this campaign to be channeled through them, so that your donations become tax-deductible for those in the United States. #MedicalHelpSriLanka has already laid the groundwork for sending medicine over to Sri Lanka, and #Arogya will work with them as well in our efforts.
We at #Arogya believe in complete transparency and will maintain a public database to inform donors of the entire process - from funds raised to the allocation and use of proceeds. #Arogya, made up by a group of volunteer Sri Lankans from around the world, currently consists of Amanda Holmes, Aruni Wijayakoon, Dilshan Godaliyadda, Madhu Ching, Manjula Dissanayake, Nidos Wijesuriya, Ridmi Coomasaru and Shavini Fernando. Please visit our Facebook page for frequent updates on the campaign.
Disclaimer: The collected funds will be disbursed through a mutual agreement between HSSF and #Arogya, as outlined in an MOU signed by both parties.
