In the spirit of love— (the love of music and my love of the many students I have the honor of guiding on their musical journey), I am embarking on an ambitious project to compose and produce a multi-cultural/multi-genre 8 song EP that contains music centered in and "Inspired by Joy". Once all the music is produced, many high level educational resources demonstrating the process of music composition, arranging, orchestrating and production will be created as a result of this adventure.
While sharing and listening to beautiful musical examples that represent the multi-cultural tapestry of my students– I am often joyfully overwhelmed by how that music affects the students as we begin to more deeply examine it from an artistic and technical perspective.
To that end, the music composed for this EP will include various styles such as Brazilian Samba, Bossa Nova, Tone Poems composed for full orchestra (inspired by French Impressionism), Solo Piano interludes and even Electronic Remix of this organic material.
In keeping with the theme of "multi-culturalism", I decided to do something quite unusual––Brazilian rooted music sung in Spanish.
*On a side note: this is the first time in my decades long career that there are no boundaries imposed on the music–essentially this is my first venture as an "artist".
All of it will be inspired by joy!
The main goal of the project is to create educational materials of the project in the form of:
1) Scores/parts of the instrumentation used.
2) Educational Videos that explain and follow the entire creative and production process (from initial composition/orchestration to final recording/mix, and the production considerations involved) in great detail.
3) Pro Tools/Digital Performer session files (mixed with all plug-ins, and raw unmixed files). This includes any and all MIDI mockups.
4) Behind the scenes footage of the various recording sessions to help demystify the job of a producer.
5) In addition, many hours of lectures will be derived from this EP journey that will cover everything from:
a) traditional songwriting, composition, arranging and orchestration
b) sophisticated MIDI mockups in pre-production phase
c) working with and producing talent
d) editing and mixing complex multi-track sessions
•COSTS•
The cost associated with recording this project is quite expensive ($35,000+) because it involves such a large number of great musicians, singers and recording studios large enough capture their performances.
The orchestra will consist of 62 players, the Brazilian styled music will include not only a large rhythm section and singers, but also 13 horns and woodwinds coupled with a 36 piece string ensemble. The recordings will take place in the greater Boston, MA area.
This $35,000+ budget will cover the costs of hiring over 85 individual players and singers; studio time to record, mix and master the music; and the costs required to film the sessions.
Please join me in this undertaking of creating music and educational materials inspired by joy.
Peace,
Joe Carrier
