Who is Foli?
My name is Foli Creppy and I am a visual storyteller originally from Togo who is now navigating the vibrant creative scene in Berlin. My passion lies in the realms of photography, directing, and creative direction, where I weave narratives that capture the essence of moments and cultures. After embarking on many journeys and immersing myself in diverse experiences, I’ve forged numerous collaborations with renowned artists and global brands. From Beyoncé to GQ, Calvin Klein to Vogue, ZEIT to Highsnobiety, and Puma to Nike, my work spans a wide spectrum of creative partnerships, reflecting my commitment to innovation and inclusivity. Now, I’m fueled by a profound desire to share the untold stories of West Africa with the world.
Why Gofundme?
At the heart of this crowdfunding venture is a dream to unveil the unseen, to bring to life the rich tapestry of West African cultures that often escape the distorted lens of mainstream narratives. Here’s a closer look at what your support will bring to life:
- 1. Illuminate the Unexplored:
My mission is to traverse all the West African countries, casting light on unseen corners and unheard stories. These are not just pictures; they’re windows into the daily lives, vibrant cultures, and untold stories of the people who call West Africa home. I have already traveled to 6 of the countries that belong to the landscape of West Africa during the last 3 years: Senegal, Gambia, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
- 2. Why It Matters:
West Africa is a mosaic of traditions, histories, and lifestyles. By documenting these narratives, I aim to break down stereotypes and showcase the beauty and resilience of the region. It’s a journey into the heart of communities, capturing moments that reveal the true spirit of West Africa.
- 3. Your Contribution:
Funds will facilitate my travel to the West African countries I haven’t explored yet. It’s about reaching the heart of these communities, engaging with locals, and capturing authentic
moments. Your support will be the compass - guiding me to those hidden gems, ensuring that no story goes untold.
- 4. Impact:
- Cultural Preservation: Many indigenous stories are at risk of fading away. Your support aids in preserving and celebrating these unique cultural narratives.
- Global Understanding: By sharing these stories globally, we contribute to a more nuanced and interconnected world. It’s an opportunity for individuals to see beyond the headlines and stereotypes, fostering empathy and understanding.
- 5. Your Rewards:
In return for your support, you’re not just funding a journey; you’re becoming a part of it. Depending on your contribution, you’ll receive an invitation to the film premiere, a calendar, a signed hardcover TWAYNK photo book, or even a credited mention in the final works.
Cost Breakdown: €30,000
The numbers are based on the experiences I have had traveling through West Africa for a total of 7 months over the last 3 years and the amount of money I have spent myself on the project during that time, which is approximately €20,000.
The plan this time is to stay for approximately 8 to 9 months, as that is the amount of time I will need to complete the ‘material collection’ phase of the project and travel all over the West African countries.

- Camera Gear: €3,000 (to update the camera equipment I started the project with for photography, filming & sound recording.)

- Food: €2,000 (allowance for daily meals and trying local cuisines for cultural exploration.)

- Communication: €500 (SIM cards, internet, and communication expenses.)

- Compensation fees: €3,000 (I always compensate the people who share their stories with me for the project, and most of the people do expect a small gesture as an act of thankfulness.)
