Thank you for considering helping our family in this time of need!

We want to first express how difficult this is to ask for financial help, but reality has set in and it is time to reach out to you all. We are asking everyone that loves Doug as much as we do to understand his story and give anything you can. Thank you!!

The full story is below, but here is a quick reason for asking for financial help. Doug will soon be transferred to a Long Term Acute Care facility to continue treatments to help bring him back to us. Tammie, Doug's amazing wife, has been told that insurance will be dictating which facility he is sent to... and unfortunately the one that he likely will be sent to MAY NOT be the facility of choice for many reasons. We need Doug to be given the utmost care, nearest to Tammie and family.

We have been told that the cost of TRANSPORTING him to a different facility will cost in excess of $20,000! Insurance will NOT help with these costs, and Tammie will be left with the bill.

The medical expenses, cost of travel, normal monthly bills, and most importantly, the loss of Tammie's income while caring for Doug, is about to be a huge burden.

Please help in any way you can, even if it is as small as the cost of your next Starbuck's run. Our family is so grateful for any help!

Doug's story, as best and to the point as I can write it at this time (edits will surely be made with new information, so please understand):

In the first week of December, 2023, Doug started showing signs that things were... different. Confusion, extreme headaches, nausea, and "smells" that were unexplainable. Tammie very quickly noticed a difference and took him into urgent care. Doug was diagnosed with a rare viral infection that had gone into his brain (HSV1 Encephalitis). The infection caused brain inflammation and seizures that lead to the doctors giving heavy sedation, antivirals, and antibiotics to try to control. Brain, heart, kidney, and lung concerns have been a daily battle. Vitals have been on a roller coaster since the beginning... and Tammie has basically never left Doug's side.

Fast forward to now, 1/2/24, Doug has been in the ICU since December 8th and has not come out of his coma yet. Heavy sedation has been lifted and doctors are now doing what they can to get a response from him. Seizures have also stopped with the help of medication. Doctors have given updates of brain activity and vitals that at times show promise, and at times give serious concern. We are all in a state of waiting as Doug's body and mind recover from a very serious infection that could potentially take his life. Day by day, and quite literally, hour by hour we wait to hear of improvement and response from Doug.

We continue to believe in Faith over Fear as we wait for Doug to come back. Our faith and love for each other and for Doug will get us all through this! Thank you all for your support and help in this time.

With love,
The family of Doug and Tammie
