Electronic music halts, evolves, and heals the world through the 2020 global pandemic and social revolution. Millions of fans around the world are waiting for live music’s return. But when dancefloors go cold; artists, musicians, innovators, and crew must find a way to bridge the gap between global shutdown and the return to mainstage.
Nothing about this project is conventional, and in these times, how could it be? With your support, we can tell this story with full creative control. Our intention is to cinematically illuminate the unsung heroes who create your live music experience, and celebrate the resilient culture of the underground...right up until its onstage return. A portion of your donation goes to MusiCares, a health and human service charity that helps members of the music industry in times of crisis.
We are VAULT, an independent, women-led production. We come from the worlds of music and film. Our documentary tells the story of now, through the lens of electronic music.
In making this documentary, we’re capturing artists, crew, festival giants, and music industry leaders; in real time—documenting every milestone on the path to global re-opening. You’ll see how the art of live electronic music transforms, and how a community survives.
You’ll see personal footage from artists like SofiTukker, Channel Tres, VNSSA, and Rinzen. Go behind-the-scenes with industry giants from the likes of Insomniac, Billboard Dance, VitaMotus, Sound Nightclub, KCRW, Beatport, and countless more. We’ll show you what happened when live music shut down… sparking a renaissance of virtual performance.
We’ll elevate unheard voices, take you inside unseen conceptual landscapes, and share innovative imaginings of tomorrow’s live festival experience. Already busting the barriers of what we thought we knew about live music and the people who make it; this journey is challenging, inspiring, and needs to be shared.
So, why crowdfund? We’re dedicated to the real story. We’re diving deep, staying closely tied to a huge slate of real people. To do that, we need to be able to move and adapt quickly. As music fans first, we want to give you unprecedented insight to the industry—a masterclass in the unique and complex ecosystem that is electronic music.
We’re living this story in real time, and will be in production until the day we capture artists stepping foot on a festival mainstage. Until that day, this production is our lives...so we’re committed to seeing it through with you.
Our first order of business is to support the industry we love. A portion of all proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to MusiCares for its ongoing COVID-19 Relief efforts, helping those in the music industry affected by the pandemic, ranging from tour crew members to artists and many other music professionals and serving all genres of music. Established in 1989 by the Recording Academy, MusiCares provides an extensive support system of emergency, addiction recovery, disaster relief and preventative services for members of the music industry in times of crisis.
