With many in our Industry of Live Entertainment in dire financial straits, it is with deep humility that we come to you asking for help in keeping our circus alive. Vau de Vire is facing catastrophic times -- we've had to cancel multiple shows, losing 7+ months of income and counting as a result. Our direct support of 200+ local artists/cast/crew/staff is in jeopardy without your help in bridging these times, until we can once again play with you in the flesh.
How you can help:
-Donate - Since we can’t gallivant with you in the flesh… might we suggest the following donation amounts::
...$20 - For the money you’d spend on 1.5 drinks (at a reasonable joint)
...$50 - For the money you’d spend on cocktails for 2 on a night out (lightweights)
...$75 - For the amount you’d spend on a set of indie concert tickets (without drinks)
...$150 - For dinner and a movie
...$500 - Amount spent at a weekend music festival
...$1000 - For a “wild” weekend in Vegas (unless you gamble)
...$6000 - Will cover costs of our storage/warehouse and utilities for one month
...$24,000 - Will cover our operating costs for 1 month (storage/warehouse/insurance/rehearsal space/taxes and 4 very modest salaries)
-Share/Post - Every additional “share” is greatly appreciated! Your voice is valued in sharing this call for help.
What the funds will be used for:
-Rent for storage of equipment, decor, materials, and a big beautiful circus tent we hope to put up and host you all in once we are able to gather again..
-Insurance, taxes/state fees, software and hosting expenses.
-Basic utilities and administrative fees for keeping proposals and applications rolling while the venues are dark.
-Support for bringing The Soiled Dove back to the Bay this Fall, in addition to helping keep our involvement alive in the production of numerous annual events we collaborate with local artists and producers on: Edwardian Ball, Dusk till Dawn, New Bohemia NYE and more!
Why we feel this is important:
-In 2019 alone, we helped support over 200 artists, performers, crew and staff to the tune of 1.2 Million dollars in payments.
-We believe Vau de Vire Society is an integral institution of circus sub-culture in the SF Bay Area and beyond. The events we produce are at the heart of so much good in human life: love, friendship, fun, creativity, exploration etc. It’s therefore of great importance that we continue to exist despite physical distancing so we may celebrate with you again.

What began as a group of novice but starry-eyed artists creating themed parties for their close friends has now, 20 years later, evolved into a renowned performance group and production company responsible for the SF Bay Areas most notable and unique art-driven nightlife events (The Soiled Dove, The Edwardian Ball, New Bohemia NYE, Lagunitas Beer Circus, Hell in the Armory + many more)...as well as representing it's community in nearly every high profile Music and Art Festival spanning the US (Symbiosis/Global Eclipse, Outside Lands, Bumbershoot, Download, EDC, Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, Paradiso, Electric Forest, Envision, Super Bowl XLIII, Lincoln Center NYC + many more).
