HELP SAVE OUR NONNA
Teresa Durante is a 59 year old widow. Tragically, she’s a non-smoker faced with a life threatening Lung Disease (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) which has recently also led to Pulmonary Hypertension. Teresa requires 24hr home oxygen therapy due to the rapid progression of her disease which unfortunately has no cure. The only way to save her life is to receive a Double Lung Transplant, which will take place at Toronto General Hospital. This process requires her to relocate from Windsor with her caregiver to Toronto to await her new gift of life (Double Lung Transplant).
Teresa’s smile lights up every room she walks into and is loved by many people but mostly by her three children, her daughters Anna Piunno (Gino), Antonietta Vespa (Johnny), and son Mario and her four young grandsons who mean the world to her.
Teresa has always been the first to help and give to others but unfortunately now needs the help of others. For the last year, she has been travelling back and forth to Toronto for Pre-Assessment testing and continues testing and therapies until donor lungs become available.
Teresa has not been able to work for the last two years due to her illness and has no medical insurance or extended benefits which requires her to pay for everything out of pocket.
These expenses include travel back and forth from Windsor to Toronto, relocation costs to live within the vicinity of Toronto General Hospital before and after the transplant as well as all Pre medications and Post Lung Transplant medications.
Facing this heart breaking process, we have realized the importance of becoming an Organ Donor. If you are currently not registered as a Donor please reconsider. You can save up to 8 lives!!!!
Thank you for taking the time and sharing in our journey, it is much appreciated.
