The adventure of a lifetime. Imagine it, traveling along the highways exploring some of the most beautiful natural wonders this world has to offer. Not just looking at it on a computer screen, but all five senses reacting to it. From the expanse of the Grand Canyon, to the peaks of Yosemite, trees twenty times older than you in the Redwoods, to the freezing Crater Lake, the snowy mountain sides of northern Montana, to the almost unworldly geysers in Yellowstone. All five senses reacting, not limited to the size of your screen but actually there, right before your eyes. In a world that is so distracted by technology and money, we have lost sight of the world around us. We have lost the imagination and wonder of what lurks just around the corner. We have lost curiosity of the beauty of the world that we live in and what it has to offer. So, we pose this question ~ ARE YOU REALLY LIVING?
This is a question we have asked ourselves and have played around with the answers off and on. We then realized that we were born into this world for a reason and as long as we live on this planet, we have to explore it and find beauty in it. Today there is so much tragedy and loss. You never know which day is your last and how much longer you have on this earth. We couldn't sit by knowing this and not do something about it. We decided that we were gonna spend every second of our lives and live it to the fullest and use our knowledge to encourage others to do the same.
But wait, we're in high school, how do we do that? Though we are only seniors in high school, we knew that we had to do something about our desire to explore NOW! This started with the search for a van. We knew it could work and we could make it something amazing if we just could find one. Well of course this did not come without the scepticism of our parents. But after a lot of convincing and proving to them that we were serious, they agreed to our idea. So, we found a van. The van is a 1994 Dodge Ram Van 250. We bought it for $1200 in an online auction. We were so excited to finally see that our dreams were starting to materialize but we knew that this would mean a lot of work and commitment to our plan.
The van is in good condition, or at least appears to be. The van runs but has a few visible problems. For instance, the speedometer does not work, the gas gauge does not work, and there are a couple dents on the outside of the vehicle. Other than this, there are no problems we know about right now. We have yet to take it to the mechanic for a checkup of everything though.
So along with fixing the problems above, your money will help us to pay for the restoration of the vehicle, a paint job, building materials for the inside, and gas.
On the trip, we plan to travel from our hometown, Dothan, Alabama to Dallas, the Sandunes, the Arches, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, the Salt Flats, San francisco, the Redwoods, Crater Lake, Glacier National, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, through Nashville, and finally back home all in a span of 3 weeks. We will leave next June and should be back in mid July. We are calling the trip Van Gogh. Sounds crazy but we believe that this can happen and hope this will be an amazing bonding trip before we go off to college and allow us to encourage others to explore the beautiful world they live in.
Your contribution will be of huge assistance for our trip. We will be so thankful for your help and we will not waste your money!
The first 25 donations of $20 or more will receive a post card from every stop on the trip with a personalized note written with it. Thank you each and all for your consideration, thoughts, prayers and well wishes!!!
