Sadly one of our lovely kennel hounds, Vanessa, had a freak accident on a walk last week. She jumped up and landed badly, which resulted in the complete dislocation of her hock and a double fracture of her lower leg.
We were given 3 choices for her - PTS, immediate amputation or specialised orthopaedic surgery. We had no hesitation in giving her the very best chance of a full and happy future. She was transferred to The Willows in Solihull for extensive and complex surgery on the affected leg.
We are delighted to have her back with us at Crossing Cottage, albeit with a massive metal fixator attached to her leg to stabilise it during the healing process. She will be going back for further surgery to have this removed in the New Year.
I think it goes without saying that surgery like this comes at a significant cost - we think the total will land somewhere between £8-10k, which is more than we can cover as a small, independent charity. So, we are asking for your help...
Vanessa is a beautiful, friendly little retired racing greyhound who is full of life and joy - she deserves the very best life!
