Hello,
my name is Sam and I am fundraising on behalf of a beautiful family my mom met at work. This family came to buy a vehicle for their family to be able to get to their work here in the U.S. and travel for basic necessities like medical care, and food. It quickly became apparent the financial deficit this family is facing due to exploitation of their labor and a promise of much more. The family came to the U.S. very recently after years of searching for employment and to get here legally. The pandemic hit and spoiled their plans to get here years ago. Due to the pandemic their financial stability severely suffered, but they never gave up their dream to come to the U.S. They just recently arrived and have faced so many challenges. All of their savings were spent to get here, and the employer who has sponsored their work visa has exploited them. The job he was hired for according to their attorney in Brazil was supposed to pay a significant amount more, and is worth more here in the U.S. is only paying now $14/hour. It has been nothing but problems in getting this family started. The labor this husband/father will be doing is normally in the pay range of $25-28 an hour for this area, and unfortunately they are now stuck in this position for a minimum 6 months and that’s if they can find another employer to sponsor them after this time period. The family is in desperate need of support, resources, legal services, money, and more. They have no housing, but two young children ages 2 & 3. Their 3 year old son has autism, and navigating all of this with very little money, no housing, no support, a language barrier, and the exploitation they are facing has been incredibly difficult and unexpected, as it was expected that the employer sponsorship was going to help with all of this. This family has an unwavering faith and love for God, they are incredible people who want the best for their children. I am fundraising on their behalf because getting to know them, help them, and be a friend during this time of struggle has deeply touched my heart. They are more than willing and capable to do so much good, they just need a place to start.
When they arrived their children unexpectedly fell ill, and times have been hard. The family is losing hope and is incredibly scared for what is to happen and what the future is to hold for them. They are scared this employer will continue to exploit them, and as humble as they are, I am asking for help.
Vanessa, mother of two and wife of Rodrigo wrote this about their family and their needs:
Hello, my name is Vanessa, mother of Laura, 2 years old, and Nicolas, 3 years old, an adorable autistic boy. Our hero is called Rodrigo, a tireless man in search of better opportunities for our family.
We arrived in Michigan with a clear goal: to buy a simple car so that my husband could commute to work and to rent a house for our family to live in. Unfortunately, this was not possible, and today we find ourselves without a place to live. The little money we had to rent a house with two young children quickly ran out, especially because they fell ill and with the costs of food, medication, and transportation via ride services to get around. Our biggest concern now is that we don't have the resources to rent even a simple place.
We are asking for help to finally find a place to live so that we can work to pay the following months' rent. We know that God is guiding our steps and will not allow us to end up on the streets. We have faith that He will do the impossible in our lives.
This family just needs housing, resources and community. Please consider helping them get into a stable home for their family, and they will do the work to upkeep and maintain their living expenses. I have never met more grateful people, for what little they have and what hell they have been put through.
A dollar or a share helps! Thank you.
